On March 2, Yū Asai and her husband, fellow manga creator Motoyuki Asai, were involved in a tragic traffic accident. While Motoyuki sustained serious injuries and remains hospitalized, Yū passed away on March 6.

The news of Yū Asai’s passing was shared through Motoyuki’s Twitter account, where her husband continues to receive medical treatment for bone fractures. It was also mentioned that Motoyuki’s recovery process is expected to be lengthy.

A Talented Duo: Yū and Motoyuki Asai’s Journey

Motoyuki Asai, who started his career as an assistant to manga creator Mitsuru Sugaya, made his debut as a manga creator in 1984 with Magnum Taishō. He gained popularity with his manga series, Famicom Rocky, and also worked on Sukebō Rocky.

Yū Asai, on the other hand, began her journey in the manga industry as Motoyuki’s assistant. Together, they collaborated on various manga projects, with Yū’s notable works including Hoshi no Kazu dake Dakishimete, Kimagure Short Cut, Kakeru-kun Wake up!!, and Lovin’ You.
